ComputersPlus’ web site has listed four Asus barebone (whitebox) laptops based on forthcoming Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform.
Products pages say 14.1-inch Asus S62E and 15.4-inch S96S barebone laptops support next generation of Intel Core 2 Duo “Merom” processors such as T7700 at 2.4Gz, T7500 at 2.2GHz, and T7300 at 2.0GHz. The 13.3-inch Asus S37E and S37S are claimed to support “Merom processor W/2/4MB L2 Cache”.
Unlike last year released Socket M “Merom” processors with 677MHz front side bus, the new 800MHz FSB CPUs will use “Santa Rosa”-compatible Socket P, according to the earlier reports. This means that current Mobile Core 2 Duo processors, such as T7600, T7400, T7200, T5600, and T5500 are not compatible with Intel’s new notebook platform, as well as with the mentioned Asus’ barebones supporting T7700, T7500 and T7300 processors.
Asus S37E, S62E, S37S, and S96S whitebox laptops are priced at $567, $436, $627, and $526 respectively.
Currently, there are no detailed specifications of these barebone notebooks.
